Taking a Long Trip? What You Should Know
Sometimes choosing a transportation company is the hardest when planning long-distance transportation needs. However, you may need to know some facts before booking your trip.
Driver Regulations & Restrictions
If you are more flexible with your schedule and want to leave open the possibility of random stops and special detours, you should know the following:
- Due to regulations, drivers can only drive up to 10 hours. After that, they must have 8 hours off duty before driving again.
- A driver may work up to 15 hours, including driving and non-driving duties. Once the 15 hours limit is reached, the driver must have 8 hours off duty before driving again.
- Drivers may work up to 70 hours in an 8-day period. This includes driving and non-driving duties, and they cannot drive after reaching that limit.
They are not allowed to exceed these limits. If they do, the driver will be put “out of service” on the spot. In addition, if a surprise state or federal roadside inspection of your driver’s logbook shows they reached that limit, they will not be allowed to drive you further. This could severely delay your group while another driver is located and transported to your motorcoach. There could also be further penalties for your driver and the bus company.
Ask Us About Our Military Bus Agreement
We participate in the MBA (Military Bus Agreement) Program. Chesapeake Charter is an approved carrier to provide ground transportation to all DoD travelers. As an approved carrier for DoD, we must undergo a facility, terminal, and equipment inspection every two years. DTMO monitors our performance for continued MBA compliance.
